PREMESSA
RECENSIONE
She’s the one thing I wanted that I didn’t take. Call it crisis of conscience or a moment of stupidity. That’s over now. (Joshua North)
In quale modo?

Hi, sweeties! I’ve binge-read this amazing book in four days, yes, it seems not so much time considering I’ve read longer books in lesser time, but for me this was an epic day. Like, how could I find something as wonderfully gut-wrenching as “Audition”? It will be hard to find a book that will top it. Also yes, I’m PMSing hard, but not even the headache made me stop read “Audition”. It was worth every hour in these days.
PREMISE
I’ve read Skye Warren books before this, and I knew what to expect from the beginning: slow burn, super sexy scenes, amazing made-outs between the main characters and scorching sex between them. I’ve missed her, as a reader, a lot. Now I remember why I liked her in the first place, as I said before, her books contains everything that I like in a book: blood, sexy and slow burn. Although, I must admit, I found some scenes hurried and not quite well developed, and I can’t say which one, because it will be a major spoiler for all of you. So I shut up. Let’s start this review!

REVIEW
She’s the one thing I wanted that I didn’t take. Call it crisis of conscience or a moment of stupidity. That’s over now.(Joshua North)
Joshua North, a cold-hearted CIA agent was selected five years ago to penetrate the clan of Caleb Lewis, located in New Orleans. Soon, or better, caused by a twist of fate, he met the sixteen year old Bethany while she was rehearsing her ballet in one of the empty warehouses of her brother. From that moment on, something sparked between them. It could have been the hot kiss they shared, or maybe the fact that Joshua shouldn’t kiss or touch Bethany, but something indeed sparked between them. Attraction? Love? Friendship? We don’t know.
We only know that, from that moment on, they couldn’t take their eyes off each other in a way that pissed everyone in Caleb’s clan, especially Caleb. Caleb, I must say, it’s the ‘call of action’ of this book, I mean, it’s the main cause why this book starts, for instance. He’s a drug smuggler and much much else. It’s a thing that always scared Bethany and from which she took distance even five years ago, when she was just a teen in love with a young man who would break her heart. In which way? You should read to discover it.
But Bethany and Joshua share a dark past, not connected, but dark in either way. It shocked me reading what made him the man he is in ‘present time’, because it really explains many things. Again, I would not tell what his dark past his o what Bethany’s dark past is, you have to discover it. I guarantee, it will shock you. I was totally shocked when I first read about them, and it’s something I can’t get off my mind. Kudos to Skye for creating this backstory, I’ve always loved anti-heroes with a complex past, and Joshua is, from now on, one of my top favourites bad boys.
A character I loved deeply was Mamere. She is the grandmother of both Caleb and Bethany and it’s a good old woman who read tarots. Again, considering the location where the novel is set – one of the Quarter in New Orleans – it worked well and it added a touch of magic and occultism to the whole novel in general. Not also this. I felt a deep tenderness toward her and I don’t know if this was Skye’s intention from the beginning, but she is one of the best side-characters ever.
The story develops around the threating letters Bethany, who now dances professionally for a ballet group, keeps receiving. This reason will set the story up, and you will keep wondering who Bethany’s stalker really is, because I didn’t have any clue from the beginning.
I loved, totally, with all my heart, the story’s structure: we have an alternance from ‘the present time’ and ‘five years ago’, which allows the reader to know their backstories but also what made them who they are now and the bond they share. Well, the bond everyone in the novel share with the main characters. It was a smart strategy, and I loved very much.
I salute you with a quote from this book, that I advise you to read as soon as you can. Skye warren is a guarantee of perfect writing and hot scenes, but also deep characters that are more than just a façade. Because they are much much more.
