RECENSIONE di Her Howling Harem 1 di Savannah Skye/ REVIEW of Her Howling Harem by Savannah Skye

Buon pomeriggio, bloggers e lettori! Sono in camera, tra la porta chiusa e il pc acceso avrò quaranta gradi e l'abbiocco mi sta richiamando a gran voce - complice il fatto che ho dormito poco e male ieri notte - perciò cercherò di essere il più esaustiva possibile in questa recensione bilingue per evitare di fondermi davanti al computer.

PREMESSA
"Her Howling Harem 1" mi ha attratto sin dall'inizio dalla sua copertina stratosferica e dalla sua trama interessante. E' bello ogni tanto leggere romanzi sui licantropi, invece di leggere sempre e solo romanzi sui vampiri. Questo è stato il mio primo romanzo di questo genere, un genere del tutto sconosciuto in Italia, il Reverse Harem, Wikitionary definisce così questo genere:

Ammetto che è sempre uno shock avvicinarsi a un genere che non si è mai letto, specialmente se tratta tematiche che non si condividono, tuttavia le trovo hot da morire e ho deciso di dare una possibilità a questa promettente scrittrice americana. Prima che pensiate male, Booksprout.co è un sito dove gli autori mettono a disposizione di lettori, blogger e giornalisti i romanzi per un arco di tempo deciso da loro, ogni ARC è controllata e il distributore del sito può rintracciarvi se fate qualcosa di illegale. Questo è solo uno dei tanti modi che gli americani hanno per fare promozione ai loro romanzi, il primo fra tutti è di sicuro Netgalley, a cui segue Edelweiss Above the Treeline+ e Bookfunnel.

RECENSIONE

Come ho detto prima, non ho mai letto 'reverse harem fantasy' o 'reverse harem romances', e ho amato questo moltissimo. Quando il lettore comincia a leggere il romanzo, si ritrova a storia già iniziata, quindi la tecnica narrativa utilizzata è il medias res almeno per l'inizio, e ci ritroviamo nel bel mezzo del processo per alto tradimento nei confronti del suo branco, i Kellum. Ma cos'ha fatto per essere cacciata via da esso, dalla sua famiglia? Arianna Kellum, figlia del più potente Alpha del branco, ha fatto l'impensabile: ha liberato un giovane ragazzo chiamato James, che era tenuto prigioniero come merce di scambio nelle trattative della guerra tra i Kellum e il clan dei MacLaren.

Un problema di coscienza, un buon cuore, un atto di gentilezza nel bel mezzo della distruzione e della morte, il suo gesto può esser visto in vari modi, ma il risultato sarà sempre lo stesso: dopo il processo, che ormai è solo una formalità e nel quale Arianna si è dichiarata colpevole, lei viene cacciata dal suo branco. E' lasciata sola nei boschi dell'Alaska, a sopravvivere il freddo inverno e nel mentre viene attaccata da un orso. E' pronta a morire. Almeno è questo ciò pensa, quando succede l'impensabile: quattro licantropi accorrono in suo soccorso e non solo la salvano dall'orso, ma la portano in casa loro per curarla. Dopo essersi svegliata, lei viene a patti con la realtà e con ciò che le è successo, e accetta la sua nuova vita in solitaria. Ma non è sola, al suo fianco ci sono quattro figaccioni pronti a difenderla, mutaforma licantropi proprio come lei, un gruppo di fratelli, i Robicheaux. Sono guidati da Anton, il più grande di loro, e a seguire ci sono il sexy e silenzioso Luke, il più giovane Ethan e il super figo Rafe, il primo che rivolge la parola ad Arianna.

La tensione sessuale tra Arianna e loro quattro è palpabile, la potrete sentire bruciare attraverso le pagine, mentre sfogliate il Kindle. E sebbene tra loro e Arianna ci sia stata una buona dose di sesso, il tema principale del romanzo non è il sesso, ma è la guerra tra i MacLarens e i Kellums e ciò che questa porta alla luce: gli esperimenti genetici che Rickland MacLaren sta compiendo sui vari mutaforma che tiene prigionieri. Riusciranno Arianna e il suo nuovo branco a sconfiggerlo? Riusciranno a salvare Rafe prima che sia troppo tardi?

EDIT: Ho appena scoperto di avere il secondo libro della dilogia, quindi presto recensirò anche quello! Yay!

Il libro è scritto dal POV di Arianna, e noi scopriamo i suoi pensieri, sentimenti, emozioni riguardo ciò che le accade. Penso che la scelta narrativa sia stata ottima, ma io voglio comunque un libro per ogni Robicheaux! Come può un personaggio inventato essere così figo? Accidenti, ho desiderato così tante volte che loro uscissero dalla pagina e diventassero persone in carne ed ossa!

Hi, sweeties! I’m back reviewing in English with a title I dowloaded from Booksprout.co a year ago, a promising steamy novel about shapeshifters, in this case werewolves. I can’t wait to read the sequel, and I’ve just discovered that I haven’t got it and right now I’m so sad, because this book got me hooked from the very first page to the last. Scrolling down the post you will read my review, and I hope to get you hooked too in this two-part saga regarding shapeshifters. 

PREMISE
In Italy we don’t have ‘reverse harem fantasy’ o ‘reverse harem romances’, so this was a first time for me with this genre and I must say I wasn’t disappointed, conversely, I loved it a lot! Guess I will read many other books of this genre, because they have what I search for in a book, especially fantasy: romance, steamy and spicy sex scenes, blood and fights. This is my personal taste, obviously and I love books with these characteristics.

SYNOPSIS (FROM GOODREADS)
When war and conscience tear wolf-shifter Arianna Kellam from her pack, she finds herself alone in the wilds of Alaska…until she runs into the sexy and untamed Robicheaux brothers. Can they make their own pack and fight for the side of good, or will evil prevail and tear them apart before they get the chance?

Warning: This is book one of a steamy reverse harem two-part series and contains a cliffhanger!

REVIEW
As I said before, I’ve never read ‘reverse harem fantasy’ or ‘reverse harem romances’ novels, and I liked this a lot. When the reader start reading this story, the story itself has already began (so the beginning of the novel it’s written in medias res), in this way we find ourselves in the midst of Arianna’s trial for high treason regarding her pack. But has she done to be cast outside her pack, her family? Arianna Kellum, daughter of the most powerful Alpha of the pack has done the unthinkable: she has freed a young boy named James, who was held captive as a ransom among the war between the Kellum clan and the MacLaren’s clan.

A matter of conscience, a good heart, an act of kindness among destruction and death, her move can be seen in many different ways, but the outcome will be same either: after a trial, that is just a formality, in which she pleaded to be guilty, she will be cast outside her pack. She is left alone in the woods, trying to survive the hard winter of Alaska, and while she’s doing so, she’s attacked by a bear. Needless to say, she’s ready to die. At least, that’s what she thinks that’s her destiny and what she deserves. Little she knew that a pack made of four handsome and sexy men will help her, taking her to their cabin and taking care of her. After she wakes up, she comes to reality and accepts, with resignation, her new life. But let’s talk about those hotties: the men, shapeshifters and werewolves like her, are a group of brothers, the Robicheaux brothers. They are lead by Anton, the bigger brother, and followed by the sexy and quiet Luke, the younger Ethan and the supa dupa hottie Rafe, the one who talks first to Arianna.

The sexual tension between Arianna and the four of them is palpable, like, you can feel it burning through the pages while you read. And although they had quite a lot of sexual encounters, it isn’t the main theme of the novel, the war between the MacLarens and the Kellums bring to life one terrific thing: the genetic experiments Rickland is doing to many shifters held captive. How will Arianna and her new pack defeat their enemy? Will they save Rafe of will it be too late?

EDIT: I’ve just discovered I have the second book of the duology!

The book is written only from Arianna’s POV, and we get to know not only her emotions or thoughts, but also her feelings towards everything. I think this narrative choice is good, but I want a book for each one of the Robichaux brothers! How can one fictional character be so hot? Damn, I wanted so many times them to emerge from the pages and become a real-life person.
