Questo è uno dei contemporary romance che più mi son piaciuti del 2018, un romance con una bella dose di erotismo ed ironia che ho adorato. Spero che la mia recensione vi piaccia!

Il single Max Carlisle è l'erede di un enorme impero mediatico, fonte inesauribile per di gossip e... vuole noleggiare una finta ragazza. So cosa ci vuole per mantenere in riga un milionario, ma firmare un contratto che mi leghi a questo Very Irresistible Playboy? E' la premessa perfetta per un bel po' di guai. Il tipo di guai emozionante e spericolato che potrebbe risanare la mia carriera, che sta andando a rotoli dopo il mio bagno nel fango con cinque shih-tzu (non chiedete).

Hallie Gage è un'aspirante fotografia, ha lasciato il suo lavoro per uno dei più ricchi milionari di New York, per coronare il suo sogno. Ma adesso, le cose non stanno andando molto bene per lei: ha solo pochi incarichi e molti di essi sono servizi fotografici per matrimoni. Alcuni di essi sono ridicoli, come quella volta che ha dovuto fare le foto ai cani dello sposo e della sposa, in tiro proprio come i loro padroni. Con la sua macchina fotografia distrutta e annegata, si ritrova al punto di partenza: è senza denaro e non ha i mezzi per realizzare il suo grande sogno.

L'aiuto giunge, inaspettato, da Alyssa, la leader dell'Agenzia. Essa è una sorta di cerca-coppia-escort-d'alto-bordo tipo di agenzia. Sì, lo so che è un po' confusionario, ma anche io ero confusa quando ho letto di cosa trattava l'Agenzia. Sono ancora straconvinta che sia un'agenzia di escort, solo senza il sesso. Hallie accetterà di prender parte a questa messa in scena, solo per scoprire che è Max Carlisle, il figo con cui si è scambiata un bacio bollente al matrimonio dove i suoi sogni sono finiti a mollo nell'acqua, di cui deve far finta di essere la ragazza. Max è molto molto figo e dalla lingua tagliente, ma nasconde un segreto all'azienda di famiglia... non è interessato a quest'ultima, ma questo perché, all'inizio, si guadagna il titolo di "international playboy", perché sì, un figo come lui può essere solo un cocciuto playboy. Credetemi, questa battuta non è ironica o altro, sto solo raccontando un dato di fatto. Hallie farà parte della sua ragazza così bene, che nessuno della famiglia Carlisle crederà per un solo momento che tutto ciò sia una farsa.

Non appena la caccia al tesoro comincia, Max ed Hallie diventeranno prima buoni amici e poi amanti, sebbene Hallie abbia combattuto a lungo una battaglia interiore su cosa fosse meglio o non fosse meglio fare con Max, loro alla fine andranno a letto insieme. Max è già innamorato perso di lei, ma Hallie sta facendo del suo meglio per attenersi alle Agency Rules. Cosa farà? Si atterrà ad esse o lascerà finalmente che la sua come-si-chiama relazione con Max si sviluppi?
Il libro, scritto dal POV alternato di Max ed Hallie, permette al lettore di entrare in contatto con le emozioni e i sentimenti dei personaggi. E, lasciatemelo dire, ogni bellissimo contemporary romance che ho letto presenta questa struttura narrativa e ogni volta che la trovo, la adoro. Lo so che è solo il mio gusto personale, ma amo il doppio POV perché mi permette di sentire sulla mia pelle i sentimenti dei personaggi e di approcciarmi ai personaggi come se fossero amici di vecchia data.

Hi, sweeties! I’ve just finished reading “Very Irresistible Playboy” by Lila Monroe, and hell, if I should hace discovered this amazing author wayyy before the literary PR event. This is the first time when I could actually feel close toward a female character, and let me say that, Hallie is such well described that she’s on top of my favourite female characters by far.

Gosh, I’m finding it difficult to even start writing from the point I’ve left yesterday night. Guess I don’t have to force myself and wait until the inspiration flow will flow through me. What a play of words I’ve just made xD I hope you all like my review!

But right now, things aren’t going so well for her: she has only few gigs, and most of them are weddings shots. Some of them are even ridiculous, like when she had to take a few photos of the bride’s and the groom’s dogs. With her photographer down, drowned in water, she is at the starting point: with nothing to help her reach her biggest dream.
Her unexpected help will come from Alyssa, the leader of The Agecy a sort-of-matchmaking-escort agency. Yeah, I know it’s a bit confusing, I was confused too when I read what The Agency was about. Still, I’m convinced that it’s a sort of escort service, only without the sex. Hallie will agree and will take part in this charade, only to discover it’s Max Carlisle, the hottie with whom she made out at the wedding, the guy of which she has to play the part of the fake girlfriend. Max is extremely hot and sassy, but hides a talent for his grandfather’s company... he’s only not at all interest in it, that why, at the beginning of the novel, he gains the title of “international playboy”, because yeah, a hot guy like him can only be such a cocky playboy. Believe me, this line isn’t ironic or else, I’m just stating a matter-of-fact. Hallie will play the part of the fake girlfriend so well, nobody of the Carlisle family will ever think of it is being a charade.
As the scavenger hunt begins, Max and Hallie will become first closer friends and then hot lovers, although Hallie fought her inner battle over what to do and what not to do with Max, they will concede to have sex. Max is already head over heels for her, but Hallie is still trying to apply to the Agency Rules. What will she do? Will she remain strict to the rules, or will finally let what-his-name relationship with Max fully develop?
The book, written by an alternate POV of both Max and Hallie, allows the reader to get in touch with the character’s deepest emotions and feelings. And, let me say that, every beautiful contemporary romance I’ve read has this narrative structure and every time I find it, I love it. I know it’s only my personal taste, but I love reading from both point of view’s, it allows me to feel their feelings under my skin and approaching at the novel as if the characters were my friend, or well, long-term friends.
So, I salute you with a quote from this book, hoping to be able to read the next (already published four books) of this serie:
