RECENSIONE di Learning to love the Heat by Everly Lucas/ REVIEW of Learning to love the Heat by Everly Lucas

Buon giorno, bloggers e lettori!

Pazienza e persistenza vanno a braccetto...

I swear, I’m not normally this irritable. My preferred state of being is less violent, more calm, and drama- free. But, at this point, I’ve reached a level of grouchiness so excessive, I’m sick of my own bad company. If only I could figure out a way to ditch myself like I’d ditch any other toxic person in my life. That being disappointingly impossible, all I can do is find ways to cope. (Claire Templeton)

I was shipping Claire with Ben, because, as I thought this was a romance, I was convinced only one of the guys would get the girl. I was totally wrong about that. Oh, I was totally, totally wrong. Not only we see Claire expose her kinkiest and secret desire to Ben, but we see Ben and Andy realize it.

“I was doing what I wanted. I was absolutely free. Now, I can’t even remember what free feels like.”
(Claire Templeton)

Good afternoon, sweeties! I’m not feeling very well today, but yesterday I finished I book that I had to review in 2017, which copy was provided by Inkslinger PR, to whom I am thankful. I enjoyed most of the book, especially the slow burn... I think that is because I’m living the days before my period so my hormones pike high. But well, scrolling down this post you’ll get what I’m saying.

PREMISE
At first, when in 2017 I signed of the Release Blitz of this book it was because the blurb said it was a contemporary romance. Hell no, it isn’t. This isn’t even a love triangle like I thought at the time, it’s something totally different. And I can tell you from the start that this is a book about a threesome. I have read enthusiastically reviews about its ending, but it’s the ending that I didn’t like at all.

SYNOPSIS (FROM GOODREADS)
What she needs most might be what she least expects…

Living without air conditioning in a Philadelphia heat wave has Claire on the brink of a total meltdown. When she escapes her overheated apartment to spend a day at the park, the last thing she expects—or wants—is for a gorgeous guy to chat her up. But his sweet smile and nerdy charm are impossible for even Claire to resist.

Patience and persistence go hand in hand…

For Ben, Claire is the One, but there’s a small snag—she’s terrified of a man’s touch. But now that he’s found her, he’ll never let her go, even if he never gets to hold her.
Another snag? Her obvious attraction to his best friend.

Sometimes it takes fire to wash you clean…

Ben respects Claire’s firm boundaries, but Andy crashes right through them. He’s arrogant, crude, a total jackass…and criminally sexy.
Even if she can fix what’s broken inside her, how will she choose between the delicious slow burn she feels with Ben and the explosive inferno Andy ignites in her?
Can they find their happy ending without three hearts going up in flames?

*This is a STANDALONE novel with a slow burn, a seriously steamy ending, and an unconventional HEA*

REVIEW
The narrative of the book focuses mainly on Claire Templeton, a young and complicated twenty-something from Philadelphia, who hates the summer heat. Her character is emphatic and quirky, making her parts laughable for the readers and enjoyable for everyone. I liked her sarcasm and auto-irony a lot, it was like reading myself on the page. I am so identical to Claire, that I liked her from the beginning.

Benjamin Cohen, a mixed American (he is, in fact, part French and part American), is the living proof that being the perfect person doesn’t guarantee you to find the true love. After a disastrous relationship with his ex, Ben is searching for the One, you know, the right person with which create a family and live happily ever after? That kind of One. He sees her in Claire, the day he goes to the park with Andy DelVecchio, his rude and sexy best friend. Unfortunately, both men fall in love with Claire and she... she feels confused about her feelings for them.

Andy DelVecchio is an Italian/American, it’s a Greek god, with a mountain of muscles and a fire character. He’s very rude, crude and sexy. He’s the kind of playboy every girl falls for, but from the beginning he starts calling Claire “Peach”, and the meaning behind this nickname it’s yours to discover.

I liked very much the characters, above all I liked Claire’s sarcasm and witty lines. Ben is caring and tender, while Andy is a human fire, ready to set aflame everything with his burning personality. Altough I disliked (a lot) the ending, not for the character’s final choice, but for the way the novel was showed in the blurb wasn’t how it was actually. It should have a warning: this isn’t a contemporary romance about a love triangle, this is a romance about a threesome. Because yes, that’s what I disliked about it and the way it was described. Guess it’s only my way to see it. Because it, yes, it had me a bit perplexed.

I greet you with a quote from this steamy book:
“I was doing what I wanted. I was absolutely free. Now, I can’t even remember what free feels like.”
(Claire Templeton)
